So What is Opus all about...

Using the barest of words and phrases Opus is a multi genre arts collective that stands out in the modern corporate system, as being responsible, autonomous, individual and quality driven. We do not therefore, favour specific markets or trends, but place value only in the output itself, the people themselves. Artists, musicians, staff and venues alike, we're for all the visionaries and wonderers out there. For us, Opus stands for something positive and deliberate, in a society where the instant and the catchy seem to be dominant; we're desperate to provide and be involved in something that has a physical effect on the consumption and dullness that seems to be commodifying and trivialising human action. Come see some of our shows. They are held by us, mainly in Sheffield, though anyone can start an Opus show. We put on a variety of nights showcasing anything from Poetry and narrative to lap top trickery, live bands and DJ's. It is a policy of ours to make our gigs as cheap and as accessible as possible. We currently promote three regular events. Opus Sessions, Opus presents "GOOD DEEDS" and Opus "UNPLUGGED SESSIONS".

OPUS "UNPLUGGED SESSIONS" at the Riverside Cafe is our most regular night running every Sunday evening from 8:30pm. The event is FREE and showcases handpicked local and national talent as well as combining an element of open mic. It's lovely and intimate, cozy and Candle lit. It's a quiet Sunday evening listening to quality musicians, writers and drinking good quality beverages of all mixtures and moulds. We also try and use the space to exhibit local artists such as Phlegm Comic and Sarah Coleman, so just send us an email if you're interested.

Opus presents "GOOD DEEDS" is our monthly charity event. Taking place on the 1st Wednesday of every month @ Upstairs (above DQ). The night aims to promote live unsigned bands and DJs as well as raising money and awareness for a charity or good cause of our choice.

OPUS SESSIONS is a new event. ''Sessions'' @ DQ aims to bring to you the true pioneers of independent British beat music. An eclectic mix of Hiphop, Drum & Bass and Electronica.

Expect an all encompassing event with projections, personalised decor, live graff artists and of course the best music from the best acts around. Launching on 21st February in the cities finest independent venue, Opus invites you to the ultimate session. Get involved. Independent Music for Independent Thinkers. We also run occasional gigs at Corporation to present very special guests. Keep a sharp eye out for these gigs, they tend to be massive! Past shows have included the likes of Battles and Chris Clark. We are also involved in a few other projects...

NOW THEN is a Sheffield based free magazine launching in April 2008. It will act as a forum for non-corporate and independent media and politic. Brought to you by Opus Creations we will cover a wide range of independent musics, arts, literature, film and theatre; as well as discussing important local and international news issues. We're are looking for writers, so if your interested? We're interested! But in something that actually puts forward a viewpoint and doesn't continuously fold to the dominant hegemony yada yada! Send us ideas and suggestions for what you'd like to see in it.

STUDIO 45 is the ideal place for up and coming musicians and bands to record and rehearse at very affordable rates. Managed by Opus' very own Technical Manager, Matt Jasper, Studio 45 is an ever expanding, centrally located studio with a friendly atmosphere, the perfect place to record tracks for demos and myspace.

BAD MONKEY is a distribution and print service offering an array of distribution packages including postering and flyering in around the Sheffield area.
